Perched upon a mountaintop, among the remains of an old Moorish fort, a white walled village leans out. Casares is old and carved into the stone that surrounds it. This place was one of the last Muslim strongholds to remain. It has one of the most panoramic views of the beautiful countryside down to the Estepona stretch of the sea, out across the Mediterranean towards the African coast. This village is so picture perfect that many visitors slow down on the approach so they can take in more of the breath catching scenery.

Casares is a prime place for rambling and other such nature enjoyable exercises. Casares has one beach itself: Ancha beach, it is well maintained and even though it is not the largest beach it is well provided for. For the sport you would have to travel down to local Estepona; where more beaches lie and the coast is rife with water activities. The old of Casares to the more modern Estepona gives the visitor a range of choices.

The cultural theme carries on though the tastes of Casares. There are many good restaurants but there are two that shine above the rest when it comes to delivering the best of Casares. The Venta Garcia is well renown for its perfection of Spanish cuisine, with its dedication to the flavour and tastes of the local area. Another more cosmopolitan restaurant is the Arroyo Hondo, which serves international food as well as Spanish. Besides the restaurants there are numerous bars too. The daytime temperatures in Casares range from 8°C in the darkest winter month to a generous 30°C in the warmest month of the year.

A purpose built estate of 16 villas serves the accommodation that Finca Cortesin offers. The Golf Club with its undulating hills is a paradise for the sports fan that loves to traverse the greens. It also has two Olympic size swimming pools. You can choose your home to be a more period style house in the higher stretches of the mountains or you can opt for the modern villas closer to the coastal areas.

The closest airport to Casares is Malaga’s. There are quite a few companies that can pick you up at the airport and get you to your destination. Shuttle services, taxis and car hire are available at the airport. These can be arranged through your flight ticket agent at the same time of booking your travel out. Car hire is probably the best option, as this will get you to most of the beautiful outlying areas and other places of interest.
