The jewel of the Costa Blanca, Cabo Roig dazzles prominently alongside this beautiful coast of Alicante. A sixteenth century watchtower remains a reminder of the town’s determination to protect itself from the Berber pirates that once looted them. Security is still very important to them today and that remains evident in the vigilance they afford their beaches. The largest, the Cala Capitan, besides having a deeper pool area for the more confident swimmer; it also has a shallower area for lesser skilled adults and children. The Cala Caleta is very safe too. Both beaches are well served by the chiringuitos (beach bars) and lifeguards maintain the safety of their visitors. Their diligence has ensured that the prestigious Blue Flag has remained with them since 1992. The Blue Flag is awarded for environmentally clean and safe beaches.

A winding cliff walk stretches around the Cala Caleta, to its nearby bars and restaurants. Many of these stay open late during the peak periods, and from reviews, the highest recommendations seem to favour the tastes of Flannigan’s and Barmed. These establishments serve good quality food. There are also other restaurants, Asian restaurants that serve Thai, Chinese and Indian food. There is, of course, Spanish food to be sampled too; the Balcon de la Dehesa is a prime example of local cuisine served well. In the evening, a lot of these bars provide entertainment till the early hours of the morning. The rain rarely falls in Spain and then it tends to mainly be in the winter. The average annual temperatures are approximately 20°C, during peak season they can reach as high as 40°C. So please check before leaving home, and ensure you have adequate protection from the sun.

Water sports fanatics will have to travel to La Manga, which prides itself on these facilities, which is about a 40-minute drive. There is a local go-karting track and for the family there is Aquopolis, a water park in Torrevieja. Golf fanatics will enjoy the fact there are three championship courses within easy driving distance.

The closest airport to Cabo Roig is Murcia, which is about 20 minutes drive away. Alicante airport is about 45 minutes drive. As more flights go into Alicante it may be cheaper to travel there, however take into account what the transfer costs would be too. Both destinations have excellent transfer arrangements so convenience is not necessarily an issue here. Airport transfers can be arranged at the same time of booking your flight tickets. Transfers can be arranged through car hire or shuttle service.

As previously stated, accommodation around here is lovely and due to this, many holidaymakers are choosing the option of renting a holiday home. The options it gives and the ability to tailor your holiday has become more attractive than staying at a hotel.
